Where You From? Oakland. Broken.

Given all the craziness surrounding the deaths of Oscar Grant, the OPD officers and Lovelle Mixon, it was only a matter of time before Oakland's hip-hop community spoke out. Mistah FAB was the first to speak out on his Oscar Grant tribute track with Jennifer Johns. Now Beeda Weeda and J. Stalin are lashing out at the police on the "We Ain't Listenin' Remix," which speaks to the rioting/rebelling that followed his murder.

DL: "We Ain't Listenin' Remix"- Beeda Weeda & J. Stalin

"My City" by Mistah FAB seems to have been recorded after the murder of the four police officers a couple of weeks ago. Although the frustration FAB documents is real, his assertion "I come from a city with absolutely nothing" doesn't quite ring true for me. That said, FAB's melancholy is valid in light of recent events. Stay tuned for my exclusive Wiretap interview with FAB coming next week.

"Double Dose of Gangsta Remix"- Beeda Weeda, J Stalin & San Quinn

East and West Oakland join the Fillmoe OG on this Chops produced track. The original was one of my favorite joints on Quinn's Boy to a Man, and given that The Town > The City, you know it just got better. In all seriousness though, this beat is crack and Beeda and Stalin went in. Be sure to check out these two on their mixtape Quit Hatin' on the Bay.

"I Don't Ghostride"- Beeda Weeda feat. Shady Nate & Kaz Kyzah

A little East and West Oakland collabo off of Beeda's 2008 album Da Thizzness. Unfortunately I don't have an mp3 of this, but enjoy the whack ass slide show that accompanies it! lol. Is it just me or does Beeda look like the Bay's Chamillionaire? Loving the old school flip phone though.

I'm glad that these dudes are trying to kill ghostriding, cuz insurance policies definitely don't cover wreckless endangerment. Unfortunately it seems that Beeda only gave up the activity because he "keeps a thumper under the seat," and that is not a Bambi reference. Ghostriding is not a bright idea by any stretch, but when it went from Oakland sideshows to internet squares worldwide, it really lost whatever allure it may have had. That said, it did spawn some hilarious youtube clips from a cop ghostriding while in a shoot out, to Marines in the Middle East ghostriding a MRAP tank (which resulted in them losing rank and pay! Lol).

Obviously the originator of the spoof videos though is my boy Ben and his friend Nate. The genius of their video was that they embraced their squareness by ghostriding a Volvo inching along a cul de sac, yet also gigged pretty respectably, and did it for a good cause. At the end of the day, its great that over 2 million viewers now know that Fremont is a porta-potty of a city not deserving of the Fightin' A's, and that square ass white dudes from the hills are hilariously down for The Town .
