Shout out to muhfuckas with hashtagged song titles. Shout out to party anthems that incite mayhem, mob scenes and partial nudity. Shout out to brash Bay boys with billion dollar thrift store steez. In other words shout out to Ricky Reed of Wallpaper.
"#STUPiDFACED" is such a party song, that it's almost a satire of a party song. What outrageousness do we learn from "#STUPiDFACEDD"? Apparently it's cool to get "Glue stick pasted" from drinking a "Super soaker filled with 4 Loko." Reed also suggests that "Money is the best way to have sex," and engages the invisible audience in a hilarious "awkward silence" call and response. Perhaps my favorite quote however is, "white girls buy produce / take me home, make em drink Grey Goose." Pair these awesome quotes with a dirty pulsing bass line and staccato drum patterns and you got yourself the #3 video on mtv.com (as of yesterday).
On January 28th wallpaper tore down Slims in San Francisco with a show that looked remarkably similar to this video. 38thnotes was in the building to celebrate our Executive Editor Niema Jordan aka Renaissance's 25th birthday, and a celebration it was. There were dueling drummers, dope ass vocals courtesy of Baby Stone, wallpaper's signature electro-funk production, a raucous all ages crowd, and of course Ricky Reed's T-Rex swag. The whole scene was maney. But when "#STUPiDFACEDD" dropped things really got out of hand.
The whole venue turned into a huge mosh pit with kids careening through the crowd like pinballs on Oxycontin. I even had to punch one dude in the head for running into Niema and our homegirl Bakes. He was so wrapped up in the moment that he hardly even noticed. That was a cotdamn show, this is a dope ass video and Wallpaper is a great example of how a live show can leave cats completely #STUPiDFACEDD.
