Mixtape: Mike Baker The Bike Maker: Body of Work

You rarely hear an emcee big up the island community of Alameda, CA, but that is exactly what Mike Baker and his Honor Roll classmate Trackademicks do on the regular. What does Alameda hip-hop sound like you ask? Well, we have little to go on, but the sonic quality of Baker's Body of Work suggests a strong link to hip-hop's golden era, house music, sunshine and soft core pornography.

I would wax poetic about a specific stand-out track or two, but the reality is that this mixtape is a cohesive compilation full of quality music and seamless transitions. I've listened to it 5 or 6 times front to back already, so if you're stuck at the office today or cleaning the house this weekend, throw it on and vibe.

If you are at work though, don't watch the music video below just yet–it's a tad risque. The Rob Critical directed video for "La La La," is built from scenes from Beyond The Valley of The Dolls, a cult sex flick from decades past. It's a homage of sorts to Bay Area filmmaker Russ Meyer and a tribute to the free wheeling sexual revolution of yesteryear. Feast your eyes and ears!
