Video: Droop-E: "I'm Loaded" & "Spend The Night"
Droop-E is a muhfuckin problem. We all know he has been killing the local airwaves since the age of 16, helping establish the sparse production style that typified the hyphy sound. But Droop-E didn't fall from grace when hyphy died– he got better. His latest work illustrates just how far he's come and how dope he'll soon become.
"Spend The Night" is quite possibly the best track on all of his father's latest double album, Revenue Retrievin, thanks to his ingenious flipping of acapella Björk samples to make the beat. It's not the typical sound scape for the host of gangsta rappers on the track, but it works. Droop-E also introduces us to his mouthpiece on the record, rapping in solid form.
But that was just the beginning. His latest project, entitled BLVCK DIAMOND LIFE is concocted of samples from the melancholic heartthrob Sade, his favorite artist. It also features him as an emcee. When I talked to him a couple months back he was excited at what he had cooked up, and I recently received confirmation from Trackademicks and DJ Tap Ten that the project is indeed fire. I was assured by their testimonials, but ain't nothing like a little taste test. So without further ado, I introduce to you "I'm Loaded," the first single off the new mixtape. The boy has his pop's swagger, but his own brand of nonchalant cool and eclectic artistry. My hats off to the Fedi Fetcher. Enjoi
