Ya Boy recently did a "jerkin'" song and video that highlights the dance of choice for skinny-jeaned LA hipster-hoppers. Erk was a apparently a bit... irked that a gimmicky dance craze jacked his namesake, so he has remade the song to take back his name. It's funny because as soon as it came out, I wondered here on 38thNotes when a Erk remix would emerge. Here we are kiddies. Enjoi Tha Jerk's reclamation.

I swear every time I get a new track and put off posting it for a few hours, Leftcoast beats me to the punch!! lol. I see you fam. YB the Rockstar and Fabby Davis Jr jump on Wiz's slap and take it to the sky. I'm tired of wordplay revolving around being "fly," but if a song slaps, then it slaps. What am I to do about the title? Speaking of a "Boarding Pass" though, I need a ticket to The Town asapolis. Anyone got frequent flyer miles? Get at me.

Late Pass: Bailey & Ya Boy are "N.N.I.C."

Champ Bailey returns after a bit of a hiatus and brings his cuzzin Ya Boy along for the ride. "N.N.I.C." features Bailey going hard, but with a new versatile flow that has him changing up his speed and cadence throughout the track. Ya Boy is always bankable for a hot 16. Overall the track works. Check it out.

Late Night Left Coast Lust and Misogyny

So this is definitely 2am jump-off music. On this first song, "Oh My," YB offers playerific play-by-play while Weezy adds his signature croakish croon on the hook. Off Ya Boy's forthcoming mixtape Mohawks & Heavy Metal.

The second track, "When We're F*ckin," is an OG Cali collabo between B-Real, Kurupt, Young De and Too $hort. You know any time $horty The Pimp is involved the subject matter will be risque. He continues to ensure this guarantee.

I'm not going to self-righteously lash out at the entire genre of pimp rap, because you all know I slap a little Ty $haw on occasion, especially at a function. BUT it kills me that LA radio personality Julio G dedicates this record to "the ladies." Let's keep it 100, the chorus is "I only love you when we're f*ckin." That's not exactly a statement dripping with chivalry and gentlemanly decorum. While it is true that women can feel this way too, there is no female representation on this song. I'm tired of male rappers thinking that if a song is about girls, then it's a record for girls, regardless of the content.

Look, I know I have a history of railing against these fly/fresh/swagger tracks, but I can't even front on this one. This ish right here actually kinda lives up to its name. I hate when artists drown themselves in excess and the acompanying ego trip, but sometimes you gotta mess with that freshness. So go ahead on and treat your trunk.

All-City: The West Bay's Latest

This first offering is from Inglewood rapper Damani, but Frisco crooner J. Valentine is holding down the hook. This is a real smooth number ripe for riding to- treat accordingly.

Ya Boy is Cali's gangsta diva. Though he hails from The SCO's Fillmore district, he lives in Malibu and wrote much of K. Fed's album. His Fillmoe cred and Britney Spears bread have created a strange beast- a couture rockstar with a machine gun mouth. Though I often tire of his non-stop gun talk- his rhyme patterns, punchlines and metaphors are on point. Plus, every once in a while he tucks the toolie in favor of serenading a young lady or two.

And I mean this in the most loving and constructive way. Big Rich, please take some writing classes or stop rapping. YB and Balance, yall did fine with your verses, but the song still does nothing for me. I understand you wanna put out the swaggereific shit like everyone else, but we are the Bay! We are supposed to be a capital of urban innovation! You're not fresh if you're saying what everyone else already has. AND flossing is kinda tired. Can we not evolve? TAKE SOME CHANCES BAY AREA!

And I present you with the latest aspiring Cali anthem. OG-40 and LbAy YG Ya Boy unite with Southern Cali's Glasses Malone and Kurupt for "Superstars." Eskay described this as Cali's "Swagger Like Us," but I think it sounds more like a West Coast take on a DJ Khaled possee cut, minus the "We da best!" drops. It's aite, but nothing to write your boys in Rita about.

More Obama omages, collages and homage

Here go a few more tracks paying tribute to Obama and the making of history. First off is will.i.am's latest viral ode to change and Obama, "It's a New Day." The Common and Dizzy joints are also very Obama/Change centric. Ya Boy tries, incorporating some of Barack's oratorical grandeur, but he inevitably devolves to talking about how amazing Ya Boy is. The track is real hot though. The new Jay is potentially going to be on the indefinitely delayed Blueprint 3. It focuses more generally on the making of history, but is relevant to this post for obvious reasons.

In other news, Rahm (Rahmbo) Emanuel has been selected to be President Barack Obama's Chief of Staff. The Chicago native served in the White House under Clinton and is the fourth highest ranking Democrrat in the House. He is known for his abrasive hard nosed attitude, just like his super agent brother Ari Emanuel (the inspiration for Entourage's Ari Gold). Some critics call him overly partisan, but he's got balls of steel the pussy ass Dems are gonna need.

Ya Boy continues to waste his talent

Frisco's Ya Boy can rap. The question is whether he'll ever learn to rap about anything worthwhile. I've been cheering for him ever since he dropped Rookie of the Year because he is a dude from the Bay with punchlines galore. That said, I'm pretty over hearing him running his mouth about guns and drugs. That is already done too much by folks with far less talent. Hopefully he'll focus less on that and ghostwriting for K-Fed and focus his energies on something lightweight interesting.
