Kev Choice, recently named "BEST MUSICIAN" by the "East Bay Express", and his ten-piece ensemble stretch the boundaries of hip-hop/soul/r&b/funk/jazz/classical/ and beyond. The musicianship, energy, and passion has garnered rave reviews throughout the Bay Area and beyond. Band members have played with the likes of Lauryn Hill, Goapele, Too Short, Bilal, The Coup, Bobby Brown, Martin Luther, DJ Quik, and more. Some come from the church, others the jazz world, the studio, or the conservatory, but as one, they are a powerful force of music to be reckoned with, under the direction of Kev Choice, a classically trained pianist and potent Hip-Hop lyricist.
This show, at The Shattuck Down Low in Berkeley is the first in a series entitled "Tribute", where every month the band will pay hommage to a different artist, a specific album, or a certain genre. With the recent passing of Michael Jackson, Kev Choice thought it would be timely and appropriate to honor him with this first edition. "MJ's music and influence is still heavy in all our hearts and minds and we seek to bring about the feelings and spirit his music evoked in all of us tonight!!
