Oakland Channels Michael Jackson's "Thriller"

As part of the international Thrill The World Day, Oaklanders gathered at Studio One in Halloween costumes to freak MJ's "Thriller" choreography in mass. I can only imagine what ran through the heads of unsuspecting passers-by. Oh how I love thee, Oakland!

Kev Choice's Michael Jackson Tribute Tonight!

From the mouth of Mr. Kev Choice

Most of us saw the BET Tribute (ehhhh), and the Memorial was phenomenal....now come check out the hottest Live Band in the Bay Area, "Kev Choice Ensemble", as they pay tribute to arguably the greatest entertainer and artist of our time, Michael Joseph Jackson.

Kev Choice, recently named "BEST MUSICIAN" by the "East Bay Express", and his ten-piece ensemble stretch the boundaries of hip-hop/soul/r&b/funk/jazz/classical/ and beyond. The musicianship, energy, and passion has garnered rave reviews throughout the Bay Area and beyond. Band members have played with the likes of Lauryn Hill, Goapele, Too Short, Bilal, The Coup, Bobby Brown, Martin Luther, DJ Quik, and more. Some come from the church, others the jazz world, the studio, or the conservatory, but as one, they are a powerful force of music to be reckoned with, under the direction of Kev Choice, a classically trained pianist and potent Hip-Hop lyricist.

This show, at The Shattuck Down Low in Berkeley is the first in a series entitled "Tribute", where every month the band will pay hommage to a different artist, a specific album, or a certain genre. With the recent passing of Michael Jackson, Kev Choice thought it would be timely and appropriate to honor him with this first edition. "MJ's music and influence is still heavy in all our hearts and minds and we seek to bring about the feelings and spirit his music evoked in all of us tonight!! The media keeps looking and digging up dirt on his death and the circumstances, we only look to honor his musical legacy and strive towards his high standard of excellence!"-Kev Choice

Rest In Peace Michael Jackson

As you all know the King of Pop just passed away yesterday at the age of 50. He was without a doubt the biggest star of his generation and, to many people, of all time. Like many, I have spent the night listening to old MJ cuts, but in the process I also came across this rare 1979 interview at Soul Beat TV here in Oakland. So yes, I will find the Oakand in anything. Trust.
