Trackademicks has long been a leader of the new school in the Bay Area music scene. The Honor Roll General has been behind the boards for years, but with his debut album State Of The Arts he's taking to the booth. On the first video from the project he is assisted by the ever-glowing Goapele to appreciate all the folks who are grinding to make life and art.
Too often rappers gets caught up in masquerading about the money they've made, the women they've played or the people they've slayed, but the reality is that hip-hop is much bigger and simpler than that. On "State Of The Arts" Trackademicks represents for the working class, the commuters, the cool kids and even the bloggers who are all doing their best to grind and grow. (And if you didn't catch it, peep the Coolhand Luke cameo at the 1:17 mark).
Tracks realizes that he isn't an all-powerful ego worthy of worship just because he raps, but rather that he is a piece of a crew and a broader movement that allows him to thrive. The song is at once a big shout out to all those minding their grind, and a wake up call to those who need to straighten their course and stand up for what they believe in.
The video was directed by Dahveed Telles and filmed predominantly at Berkeley's legendary Fantasy Studios. Enjoi and cop State of the Arts when it drops on January 25th!
