Video: Get:Live Session #5: Rafael Casal

It is finally time to honor the mastermind of the Get:Live Sessions, Mr. Rafael Casal. Rafa is a gifted poet, director, writer, and creative force who just also happens to be a really dope emcee. His work has been showcased on 38thnotes many time before, but here he shines on the platform that he helped create. Backed by his crew of shirtless hooligans, known collectively as The Get:Band, Casal goes in on his record, "B.A.Y." Chudwudi Hodge mollywhops the shit of the drums with expert execution, and Rafa articulates his allegiance to the Yay with eloquent locution.

Like his group mate Diggs, he spits rapid fire without sacrificing timing, cadence or wordplay. The fast rapping is not covering up a lack of depth or talent either, rather it is enhancing the dopeness already there. If you haven't been keeping up with the Get:Live Sessions, start clicking links and cranking speakers. And if you have been, be forewarned that next week's episode featuring the always dope and debonair Do DAT will wrap up Season 1 of the Get:Live Sessions. Worry not though, we will be back soon and with a vengeance.
