Music: Dion Decibels: 2008 MLK Tribute Mix

On Monday night folks from all over the Bay Area gathered at San Francisco's Herbst Theater for an amazing evening of spoken word in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Some teens took a Youth Speaks stage for the first time, while others returned to bask in the glory yet again. For myself and the GetBack's Rafael Casal it was an anniversary of sorts. In 2001 his first ever Youth Speaks event was Bringing The Noise, making last Monday his 10 year anniversary. I too first graced the stage at Bringing The Noise, albeit in 2003.

The evening featured some amazing talent that reminded us that we all struggle in myriad ways, but that we are defined more by how we unite and respond. Each year, as an accompanying piece of art, DJ Dion Decibels of the GetBack Crew makes a a tribute mix to the late great leader, following in the tradition of DJ Funklor before him. Dion just debuted his 2010 mix, but I'm offering up the super dope 2008 Mix to yall for free. This edition features the Bay Area's Rico Pabon, Tupac Shakur, Ise Lyfe, The GetBack and Dahlak of iLL-Literacy. Listen, download, and help spread the word and the dream.

Shout out to Nick James for the cover art!
