In remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, I'd like to introduce you to an exceptional group of students from Oakland Tech High School. Activist-minded members of Tech's 1981 Apollo class are responsible for making Martin Luther King Jr Day a holiday in the state of California, before it was recognized nationally. The short below was produced by the Bay Area Video Coalition, and focuses on this landmark achievement of Oakland youth.
Too often young people are left out of the conversations and actions that determine our present and future, but it is the magnitude of moments like these that prove that we are quite powerful indeed. I hope this serves as inspiration to young and old alike to reinvest in the power of civic action.

Excellent post, and timely post. Interesting side note, the woman who wrote the stories about the students is still at it. Good to see she adapted with the times.
Here's another Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. contribution from Do D.A.T.
Nice vid. Definitely got goosebumps. Great work by the kids, and huge props to the teacher too.
