MLK Jr & Oakland Tech's Apollo Class of 1981

In remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, I'd like to introduce you to an exceptional group of students from Oakland Tech High School. Activist-minded members of Tech's 1981 Apollo class are single-handedly responsible for making Martin Luther King Jr Day a holiday in the state of California, before it was ever recognized nationally. The video above, is a short produced by the Bay Area Video Coalition, and focuses on this landmark achievement of Oakland youth.

Often times young people are left out of the conversations that determine our present and future, but it is the magnitude of moments like the one documented above that prove that we are powerful beyond measure. If you believe in us, guide us and invest in us, we will lead you to great heights. More from my generation soon . . .
