When the beat dropped for Clif Soulo's "Dope. Man" during a special listening session for his new mixtape I Wish These Were My Beats Vol. 1 (which will be co-presented by 38th Notes) there was a collective exclamation: Damn. Facial expressions were bunched up and heads were nodding as we listened to the notably calm MC rip N.W.A.'s 1987 single "Dopeman." Despite only being a few years old when the track was released, and not engaging in the gangsta image that made the Compton crew famous, this was definitely a good beat for Clif to jack.
In the first verse Clif Soulo boasts: "I'm a drug, my words be the dope / Take another hit of the lyrical crack smoke."
And to that we ask: Please can we have another hit?
