It's always interesting how someone can woo an international audience and yet still fly a bit under the radar back home. Chris Turner is one such artist. Turner is an Oakland boy who has graced stages all over the world singing back up for Bilal, but he is also a budding front man with a beautiful rich sound. His single "Liquid Love" was featured on the October edition of our monthly Bay Abridged mixtape, but we wanted to give him some much-deserved individual attention too.
In an era where many artists are opting for a more electronic sound, Chris's music has a layered depth that feels organic, warm and a bit old school. He's a crooner with an easy gait and suave sophistication, a sound that hasn't really been claimed by the Bay Area's new generation of male singers. R.O.D. has hit the airwaves with brazen and lustful anthems, London oozes effortless pop swagger, 1-O.A.K. has a new-age electro-soul sound, and Jeremy Passion is emerging as the acoustic soul alternative. But Chris's sound is more lush, live and intimate, rounding out a pretty dope and diverse line-up of Bay Area male vocalists.
Chris Turner's debut EP Love Child will be dropping soon, but in the meantime, download his single "Liquid Love" and check out "Find A Way" and "Come Off It" filmed live at an intimate show in New York City after the jump. You won't be disappointed.
