Moe Green: XXL Feature and "KIM" Video

Though the magazine industry is a shadow of its former self, a co-sign from a major publication is still big news for a Bay Area artist. The latest local emcee to be featured is Moe Green- earning Show & Prove honors from XXL Magazine. Though The Source has been trying to orchestrate a comeback the last couple of years, the house YN built is still the premier hip-hop publication on news stands.

What I love most about the piece is how honest Moe is. In a rap climate that champions trumped of tales of drug dealing, Moe shares the other side of his life as well- chiefly his 3:30a-8:30a shift at FedEx. On a cursory level this may make him sound less hip-hop, but it actually makes him more real, because he's being honest about what he does.

That means all you rappers that proclaim you're full-time rappers even though it's not a source of revenue, share with us what you do to pay your bills. It's a shame when the "realest" music comes from a bunch of folks ashamed that they do youth work or graphic design or whatever else. We are all grinding regular hustles and hearing about shit we can relate to is important. If our ears are only bombarded with aspirational bullshit that insults our non-luxurious lives, then chances are, we will be a demoralized fan base. So please, take a page from Moe Green's book and own your complete self to the world! We all gotta do what we gotta do.

However honest Moe is about his current employment, hopefully this XXL co-sign, his first post on nahright and his regular 2dopeboy features will lead Moe from a local hero to a national presence. It's an underdog fight, but that's just what Rocky Maivia was when he stepped on the scene.

Speaking of Rocky Maivia,  his whole project is real solid and two songs will be appearing on our forthcoming July edition of The Bay Abridged mixtape. "KIM" is not one of those songs, but the video is dope and was recently featured on nahright. Green!
