New Music: GQ: Blended 2 (Mixtape)

GQ is back. In March, the Oakland Tech Bulldog and UNC alum known by most for his skills on the basketball court dropped his first mixtape Blended, and showed us why he got the 9th Wonder co-sign. With Blended 2 he's out to prove that one: this rapping thing is not a hobby and two: no matter what the game, he's out to win.

The witty punchlines are still there. GQ's unique flow and voice are still in tact. And he still rips the hell out of industry beats. But the Oakland native has added a few more folks to the team in hopes of pushing the project to another level. Old E of the Turntable Tykoonz mixed the tape bringing the tracks back at key points and contributed a few scratches simultaneously making you want to hear this in a club and easing the flow. GQ also worked with a few folks from Gravity Music Group and featured verses from fellow MCs.

However, the standout tracks are the songs where it's just GQ and the beat. Example: On "Say I Wont" he rocks Kanye's "Say You Will" for four minutes, no hook, hitting on his grind, the obstacles, his loves and his losses. Then there's tracks like "Willy Wonka (GO!!)" where he gases, just cuz. Dude is good. Real good. And he's not done. You should really listen.
