Music Video: I.V.A.N.: "Suddenly"
For those of us who have loved and lost, we know that there are moments where we crumble- moments where the pain is raw and unrelenting all over again. I.V.A.N.'s new video "Suddenly" conjures that hurt and channels it into a bitter ode to love and love lost. When he awakes to an empty bed, we are reminded of London's plight in the video for "Back To The Way," and perhaps even lonely gray mornings of our own.
"Cuz you was here right in front of me/ but now you're gone... suddenly," IVAN laments over a eerily soulful Imogen Heap sample, as he seeks solace in a cold city that can do little but remind him of his lonliness. With I.V.A.N's tale backed by Infrared's melancholic production and Terrance Banks's black and white visuals, we are forced to ruminate with I.V.A.N.'s longing regrets, while also reckoning with our own repressed heartbreak. It's not a feel good experience, but only good art can make us feel such real emotions.
