Mixtape: GQ: "Blended"

"Green and yellow, how he just come out the blue?" That's what you may be asking yourself after you take a listen to GQ's new Blended mixtape. In fact, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that it's the best mixtape of 2010 thus far. Here's why ->

1. An Oakland emcee is gassing with a punchline-riddled style that The Bay doesn't get much respect for.

2. GQ can rattle off witty, bravado-filled boastings one moment, and then wax poetic about life and loss the next.

3. His biggest upside may be his ability to churn out irrefutable hip-hop ballads that ladies will love.

Just because you stay on the scene and shake hands with Erk, Netta and London at all the coolest functions does not mean you are necessarily privy to all the dopeness The Bay has been churning out of late. GQ is a case in point. Also known as local basketball prodigy Quentin Thomas, GQ has been dropping rhymes and dimes for many years now. A recent graduate of UNC, he still hopes to play over seas, but right now his mouth piece is keeping him busy and well-connected. Signed to 9th Wonder's Jamla Records, GQ will be releasing a 9th produced mixtape entitled Who Got The Juice? pretty soon.

For now though, he has decided to drop his Blended mixtape to give folks a little taste of what he's been up to.  There is too much I could say about this tape, but perhaps the best kudos I could give it is that it requires you to listen closely. If you don't, punchlines like, "Colder than a Bayside AC without the Slater," might allude you. So take a listen to the sweet and savage Oakland savant they call GQ and spread the word!
