To many in The Bay, GQ is better known as Quentin Thomas, the Oakland basketball star who went on to become the winningest player in University of North Carolina history (until Danny Green later eclipsed that mark). And though Q has always excelled on the court, he's also long been a menace in the booth. His passions for hoop and hip-hop have run parallel courses, and though basketball has always been the focus, emceeing has been simmering on the back burner since middle school.
After graduating from UNC, he began working a lot with super-producer 9th Wonder (Jay-Z, Little Brother) and has assembled an amazing body of work that will catch a lot of people off guard. Him and 9th's Who Got The Juice? mixtape will be coming soon and 38th Notes & Daghe Digital will be dropping his Diaper Dandy mixtape prior to that.
So take this as a little warm up for what's to come. It's just a taste, but I promise you'll have it on repeat. There are emcees who can gas on one track and then tepidly rap about love and relationships on another, but GQ gasses on a relationship track. Where they do that at??!! So slap this J. Maine beat and enjoi GQ's verbal gymnastics and RJ's crooning on the hook.
