A group of Raider fans have decided that they can no longer sit back and stay silent, while Al Davis runs our beloved team into the ground. Operating from a site called MessageToAl.com, these fans have gotten over 21,000 signatures and gotten a billboard erected off of 880 near High Street. The signatures they got are in support of four things they want from Mr. Davis.1) Remove himself as general manager.
2) Hire a GM "with previous experience and success in the NFL."
3) Remove Cable and replace him with a "Super Bowl-Caliber" coach/director of football operations.
4) Ensure that the new coach has sufficient authority to make organizational decisions.
None of these demands seem outrageous given recent history, but we are dealing with the infamous infidel, Al Davis. I doubt this billboard will change anything in our organization, but I applaud the fans who respectfully voiced their discontent.
My love and loyalty run deep with the Raiders, but at a certain point you must stand up and question the powers that be. Today on Twitter I read a great quote that said, "Being a fan means questioning your teams decisions, not blindly following them." No longer can we just sit back and try to make the best of our situation. We are tired of the drama, heartache, and inferior product that we have been faced with year after year. The Raider image is all that remains, and image is not enough.
