Oakland Legend Bill Russell on Tavis Smiley

Tomorrow night McClymonds High School alumni and Oakland legend Bill Russell will be appearing on the Tavis Smiley show. Russell is an NBA Hall-of-Famer, was voted the "greatest player of all time," won the league's MVP award five times and was elected to the All-Star team 12 times.

Perhaps more importantly, he was picked by legendary Celtics coach Red Auerbach as his successor, becoming the first African American head coach in U.S. major league team sports history. He was the first pro athlete to host NBC's Saturday Night Live and is the author of two best-selling books. Russell is also a sought-after mentor who is on the board of the National Mentoring Partnership.
