It was triggered by the executions of Oscar Grant and Annette Garcia in conjuntion with a run in Wonway had with police. Pair this with Zumbi's "Cops Hate Kidz," Mistah FAB's "My Life" and Beeda Weeda & J. Stalin's "We Aint Listenin," and it's clear that Oakland hip-hop has not lost it's social awareness. Whether you agree of not, you have to respect folks sharing their thoughts through art.
