Locksmith chops it up with Big Von on KMEL

It has been a few years since I've heard anything from The Frontline, but they seem to be resurfacing. Well Locksmith is anyway. The title of his forthcoming solo effort, Frankie the Rabbit, is a bit strange, but I'm glad he's doing a solo joint. No disrespect to Left, but Lock is a way better lyricist, and with hip-hop's pendulum gradually swinging back to the lyrics, Lock is one of the Bay's best chances to be relevant again.

Unfortunately Lock is shitting on most of the Bay artists out, rather than trying to build with them. If you recall, he took this approach before with his "New Bay" movement during Hyphy's heyday. I understand his frustrations with some of the major Bay rappers out, but its too easy to sit back and shit on everybody else while proclaiming yourself the truth.
If Lock wants to make it too the next level he needs to check his battle rap mentality and learn that its important for under appreciated regions, like the Bay, to coalesce and unify. Lock may be talented, but his following isn't too deep yet. By doing features with other local artists he can build his buzz and tap into their fan bases, all while attempting to transition the Bay in a new direction.

If he really feels that some of these OGs are too far gone, then he at least needs to build with some raw up-and-comers. His current stance of poo pooing on everyone will only alienate himself from Bay Area hip-hop fans and artists. And if you can't get love at home, you are a sunk vessel indeed.

Lock has a wealth of talent, but with his signature sneer and that chip on his shoulder he won't get far. Final note, that Yankee hat wins you soo many negative points cuzzin.

thats the point!, he already has a buzz already and he will not gain anything else by just building with local. That is a bay mentality that always holds them back. "keeping it regional"

Except that he doesn't have much local buzz. The last time he had a regional hit it was '05 or '06 and even then he was not really embraced because he created a schism between the "old" Bay and the "new" Bay. Of course keeping it regional hampers Bay artists if they don't progress past this, but you do have to start there. And I guarantee that you won't meet many folks in the Bay that are eagerly awaiting anything Frontline related.

[quote]Coolhand luke[quote] let me tell you one thing. Bay fans hate there artist more than anyone else. he had a buzz in the bay with the frontline shit. I garentee that will be the best he can do in the bay because the bay knocks themselves off. thats why this whole new and old bay shit is only known "in" the bay. Yall nitpick too much. I say lock did as much as he could in the bay, now fuck it and go elsewhere and build your music. come back periodically. there is no such thing as bay success
