Sacramento, CA emcee and spoken word artist Dahlak of Ill-Literacy drops the first single off his highly anticipated new mixtape tomorrow. Dahlak's first album Dual Consciousness was lauded by fans and critics alike and remains a staple in my i-tunes rotation.
Dahlak possesses the unique ability to be human on wax- to voice the conflicting sides of himself in the tradition of Tupac Shakur. His political and social commentary are second to none, but he doesn't lose himself in preachy rhetoric. He can also flip a party jam replete with a gang of punchlines and double entendres. Perhaps, my favorite of his records are those that find him approaching young women or working through troubled relationships. His insights and emotions seem to mirror mine and probably those of a lot of other folks. This joint is apparently flipping Kanye's "Love Lockdown," so I think I may be in for a treat.
Be sure to check out "Never Know," the first single of Dahlak's mixtape Live From the Boondocks: Commencement. It drops tomorrow October 7th at www.thisisdahlak.com or www.myspace.com/dahlakbrathwaite
