Lyrics Born ft Trackademicks & Clyde Carson

When I saw this collabo I almost tinkled in my draws, because it features one of the dopest and most diverse Bay Area line-ups you could conceive. You have the OG back-packer in Lyrics Born, the indie-pop producer in Trackademicks and the smoothed out turf rapper in Clyde Carson. I hella love Clyde, but he got lyrically molly-whopped by Tracks and LB on this joint.

The song, "Block Bots," lacks a hook, but features some quality wordplay from Tracks before getting demolished by Mr. Born's second verse. I didn't know you could write an entire 16 that rhymes with "Frodo Baggins." It would be interesting to hear more from this threesome in the future, but this should keep us rap-nerds occupied for now.

New Lyrics Born: "Funky Hit Records"

This is without a doubt a funky hit record. Its a new-age old-school cut with an infectious bassline and a slaptastic kick-snare combo. It's off Lyrics Born's forthcoming album As U Were and is produced by himself and Trackademicks. As always, the East Bay emcee keeps it 100. He spits: "These writers won't fuck with me cuz I'm Japanese/ If they dont touch me, you know what? Fuck these magazines." Well 38th Notes fux with the Happa homie and you should too.

And if you only know who Trackademicks is because of the "Tell Me When To Go (Remix)" then you have some homework to do. Peep his recent interview with D Nastee on "Streets is Talking Radio" for a little intro. This cat is uber-eclectic and hella smart.

Lyrics Born: The Bay Area Maverick

Article by Eric K. Arnold for the SF Weekly
Excerpt:
If you were looking for a short description of [Tom] Shimura's more famous alter ego, Lyrics Born, this oughta do it: high-performance, low-key. Shimura always rises to the occasion onstage, whether he's appearing in front of tens of thousands in a massive stadium or for a couple hundred at a small club. But offstage, he doesn't draw attention to himself. Unlike many rappers, he doesn't roll with an entourage, and if you see the half-Japanese, half-Italian performer chilling at a local bar, club, or cafe, he's fairly incognito. . .

In 2005's "The Bay," Shimura paid tribute to the region, a place "where the people are intelligent, articulate, eloquent/Artistic, hard-working, and diligent/Both progressive and politically spirited/Definitely in possession of an ill-itant element/We hella independent."
