I've had "Certain Special Way" in my personal rotation for about a month now. I love the sentiments, the way it lulls, swoons and serenades. There is something beautiful and timeless about it. Joyo Velarde sounds a bit like a multi-generational Rose Royce as she shares emotions and sounds that transcend the here and now.
I was actually just watching the new Alicia Keys video for "Unthinkable," the one that tracks the curiosity and love of her and Chad Michael-Murray through the decades, and this song came to mind. It could have been first hummed in the 70s, sang in the 80s, soared in the 90s and finally settled here in the 21st century. In reality it was born rather recently, but creating something timeless sounding is no easy feat. So congratulations and thank you Ms. Velarde.
