One of my favorite things about music, is the manner in which new generations revisit and reinterpret songs from eras past. Whether you're a DJ conducting crate excavations or a young musician in search of inspiration, the riffs, hooks and melodies of yore are a priceless resource–making new music both recycled and organic.
In this tradition, DoDat's next project, Oakland in Blue, is an opus built entirely on a foundation of Duke Ellington samples. The jazz/hip-hop fusion album will feature work from a variety of producers, offering different takes on the elegant jazz-man's sound. So, if you too are a fan of innovation, good music and cool ass people, come out to Somar on August 23rd for a free sneak preview!
