Country Music in Oakland??

As some of you may have noticed, I've been trying to bring yall more local music not of the hip-hop persuasion. Well here is the ultimate example of that–a country music video! The band is a reputed country duo out of Kentucky named Montgomery Gentry, but this video, for their #1 hit "Roll With Me," was filmed primarily in Oakland, CA. I don't know why either, but it features some great shots of downtown and Lake Merritt (Click HERE to see a 360 degree version of the vid).

It might be interesting to hear a R&B remake of this, but I'm kinda liking the vibe on this record as is. Is it a tad strange that a Midwestern country outfit is shooting a video in Oakland? Yes. But hey, everyone needs a little Town sometimes.

Wow. A video shot in Oakland... and everybody seen on-camera has skin the same color as mine.

It makes me feel creeped-out and uneasy the same way that going to First Unitarian up in Kensington did - "This does not look like my neighborhood and these people do not look like my neighbors. What am I doing here?"

OMG, thank you first posting this! I love Montgomery Gentry! I have never been a huge fan of this song particularly, but still, this makes my day! I don't have TV really, so I had never seen any of their videos before.

This is funny. A freind of mine randomly showed this to me today.

It really seems like their not trying to Identify the city as oakland. I saw a TON of landmarks like the tribune tower and the lake but it could probably be just any nice looking city at sunset as far as this Montgomery guy is concerned.

I agree, that they should have shown more of the wonderful ethnic diversity of Oakland. Then again, the numerous Lake Merritt/skyline shots, along with closeups of some of the buildings (Lake Merritt Plaza, Federal Complex, etc) helps also.

Stefan, good point. From a positive point of view, we could conclude that Oakland has something(s) unique that no other city that the production team and group could have picked, does. They could have picked Boston seen from Cambridge for example; I have had someone tell me that such a view across the Charles, resembles that of Oakland's skyline across Lake Merritt. That may sound strange, considering the different makeup of the two skylines, but it was from a relative who lives in that area.
