Breaking News: Powe Set To Sign with Cavs

According to Espn.com Oakland's own Leon Powe has agreed to a 2 year contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and will make the league minimum for players who have played at least three years in the NBA.

It would have been great if the Warriors signed him, and not just because he's an Oakland Tech boy, but because he would bring some much needed hustle and muscle down-low. That hometown hopefulness aside, he couldn't have picked a better team to sign with. He gets to play with LeBron, who he teamed up with on an AAU team back in the day, and he gets to be on another title contender. First he backed up Kevin Garnett in Boston and now he gets to support Shaq in Cleveland, both of which look pretty good on a resume. Leon will not be able to play until late in the season, if at all because of another knee injury, but the Cavs team doctors examined him and felt good enough to sign him for a couple years.

Leon is also hosting his annual basketball camp at Merritt College, which he has hosted since he was a rookie with the Boston Celtics. This year the camp is focusing on more then just hoop though, with Kaiser, Home Depot, Peet's, Yoshi's and others donating their services to put on a more well-rounded event. The event is called "Fresh Start Family Services," which is also the name of Leon's non-profit organization. The Tribune wrote up his camp today, which everyone should check out. If you would like to register your child for the basketball camp, which is on Friday and Saturday, go to Leon's website.

Leon's story has been well chronicled by the local and national media alike, and he deserves everything good that happens to him. Leon reps Oakland the way it should be and plays the game the right way. When he does get healthy, I am excited to see him and LeBron on the court together beasting on the competition. Just one more reason to root for the Cavs, behind the Warriors of course. Congrats Leon from 38thnotes!

Final Note: Came across a good article from early last year on the Boston Globe website about Leon becoming a father. Click Here

We dont really need anymore big men. We need a solid PG. Curry is a yungsta, but we need to trade for someone whos proven themself in the league. I was sad to see mully fired considering he was making good moves for a quick minute. hopefully we do good this year. yall should write a story about die hard warriors fans before baron came. Im talkin bout channel 36 kicu and ktvu fox game watching fans.

haha the old school fans. I like that. KICU thats back in the day. I agree with you they need PG, someone who can be a constant. But I do believe they need a another big body. The only real banger they have is Turiaf, all the others are on the softer side.

does anyone remember when we used to play the lakers back in the day and they used to have they announcer chick hearn calling the games on channel 2 or kicu? i remember i was a kid but loved watching the games cuz we didnt have cable. btw, i found chick hearn's voice to be annoying; i would watch the games on mute when his ass called em. and i was 6 at the time. I'd take steve albert over chick any day!

You think Biedrins is soft? he averaged a double-double last year. I think Biedrins go harder than turiaf.

I might be a little young for that haha.

When i say soft I dont mean their productive. Between Randolph and Biedrins we have to very capable offensive big men. But when i say soft I mean guys who can't bang physically down low. I don't feel like we have a lot of big men down low who are physical enough. just a though.
