Man, ain't no place like the Town. For all you Sponge Bob Square Pants out there who aren't up on the Scraper Bike Movement, get familiar via this vid of Oaklandish's Halloween Scraper Bike Caravan. Oaklandish outfits the SB Crew with their own exclusive Oaklandish Scraper Bike T-shirts and follows them as they smob through Oakland's streets on All Hallow's Eve.
Oakland has once again upped the ante of hoodtastic stuntin' by taking hyphy, tin foil and an imagination and making it the hottest shit since the Festival at the Lake. On the surface, scraper bikes are hilarious and are merely the latest incarnation of the flamboastin' The Town is known and loved for, but there is a deeper level with this one. The SB Movement is glorifying two-wheeling to Oakland youth at a time when the environment is in peril, gas prices are constantly in flux, and obesity is skyrocketing. Plus these kids are clearly organized, ride in formation, stay safe (minus the helmet thing), and participate in a lot of positive Oakland events. On a side note: I fell out laughing when I heard that Jean Quan fell off her bike at one such event at the Lake during a donut session in a Lakeshore intersection. Damn I wish I would have been there!
All jokes aside though, I'd much rather Champ, The Trunk Boiz and all the scraper bike affiliates slide through The Town on some Schwinns than wrap a Buick around a pole at the side show. They're having fun and making the city greener and more enjoyable at the same time. If Oaklandish sells those tees, Ima have to cop one for sure. Shoot, I might even break out the old Huffy, sit it on some 24s and outfit the spokes with some pink and blue Double Stuff Oreo packaging. lol
